What is arthritis?
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints. It can affect one joint or multiple joints. There are other than 100 types of arthritis, with various causes and treatment methods.
Most common two types of arthritis
But the common problem is the same in all joint types: the joint surfaces are not moving properly. In some cases, it may be probable to treat arthritic joints surgically, as well as “joint replacement” procedures.
What does it mean to have a “joint replacement” or an “artificial joint”?
The abnormal bone and lining structures of the full joint are removed surgically, and new parts are inserting in their spaces. These new parts may be made of special metal or plastic or exact kinds of carbon-coated implants. The new parts can allow the joints to move again with little.
For the period of knee replacement, a surgeon cuts away injured bone and cartilage from your thigh bone and knee cap and replace it with an artificial joint. These are two parts of the artificial joint are attach to the bones and kneecap using special bone cement. Our surgeon (Dr Saurabh Goyal) will decide which type of implant stuff will work finest for you. The interlock parts of the artificial joint allow your knee to bend while also making it more stable. Unlike a Total Knee Replacement, the good cartilage on the reverse side of the knee and the cruciate ligaments which cross within the knee are preserve.
Procedure of knee replacement treatment
Osteoarthritis of the knee is a general cause of joint pain, the feeling of the knee ‘giving way’ and swelling.
Whilst conventional treatment including pain killers, steroid or cartilage protein injections and physiotherapy can be helpful in the early on stages, most people with Osteoarthritis of the knee will finally require knee replacement surgery.
Depending on which part of the knee is worn will conclude which types of symptoms an person will feel, be that pain, locking, giving way or stiffness.
Is an activity to replace the injured or broken part of the knee with artificial parts. Your new knee will comprise of a metal shell on the end of your thigh bone, a metal and plastic spacer on the upper end of the shin bone and if needed a plastic button on the kneecap.
Severe knee pain limits your everyday activities, including walking, going up and down stairs, getting out of chairs, and needing a walking aid for walking. You have moderate or severe knee pain whilst resting either day or night .You have chronic knee inflammation or swelling that does not improve with rest or medication .There is knee stiffness and the inability to bend and straighten the knee.
